Tyson R. Smith, Sr.

Before he advised business owners, Tyson Smith was one. Having co-founded and sold two businesses with his father in Peoria, Illinois, he entered financial services in 1998 with a firsthand understanding of the responsibilities entrepreneurs carry and the deeply personal decisions that shape an enterprise's future.

Nine years in military intelligence with the United States Air Force and the Air National Guard instilled the discipline that still defines his work: examine every opposing viewpoint before settling upon a course of action.

Early in his career, Tyson became the youngest person his previous firm had promoted to branch manager at that time. After leadership assignments in Illinois and Florida, he and his family made Orlando their permanent home in 2003.

Today, he leads Tyson Smith Private Wealth Partners, a multifamily, multigenerational practice serving families, business owners, professionals, and institutions, and serves as its branch manager and registered principal. He holds the FINRA Series 7, 63, 65, 9, and 10 registrations and the Florida 2-15 insurance license. Within Raymond James, he is recognized as a Private Wealth Advisor and is a member of the Retirement Plan and Institutional Advisory Council.*

A mentor to advisors within the practice and across the profession, Tyson is also the author of You Deserve Better Outcomes, the first title in the planned Better Outcomes series.

Raised in central Illinois, he grew up walking beans, detasseling corn, and baling hay, lessons in discipline and perseverance that never left him. Today he treasures time with his wife, Melanie, their two married children, and their growing family. Golf and pickleball keep his competitive spirit well exercised.

Approach

The most consequential decisions are rarely urgent, and the most urgent are rarely consequential. My work is to know the difference, and to give each the attention it deserves.

I believe good advice is earned in the questions asked before any recommendation is made. When every assumption has been tested and every alternative weighed, a family can act with confidence rather than hope.

Tested Before Trusted

No recommendation leaves our office until it has withstood the strongest argument against it. Conviction should be the result of scrutiny, never a substitute for it.

Better Outcomes

The true test of advice is not how it performs this year, but whether it still serves the family a generation from now.
